SA govt profiles African countries with Mandela-themed photos

The South African presidency is sharing information of African countries on the ocassion of Africa Day – a day set aside by the African Union to celebrate its formation decades ago.

The photos shared on social media are linked to South Africa’s first president Nelson Mandela’s previous interactions with the said countries.

The Africa Day 2018 celebration us under the theme: “A year of Nelson Mandela – Building a Better Africa and a Better World.” It coincides with the centenary celebration of Madiba’s birth.

Each photo also gives four core details of the profiled country – the population, the currency, the capital and official language.

Africa Day commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (now known as the African Union) on this day, 25 May, in 1963. It aims to celebrate African unity.
