RwandAir gets new CEO, Yvonne Manzi Makolo to steer expansion

Rwanda’s national carrier, RwandAir, has a new Chief Executive Officer, Yvonne Manzi Makolo has been handed the post of the rising airline by president Paul Kagame.

Her appointment late last week was part of a wider cabinet reshuffle that saw the government replace Finance Minister and other top portfolio holders.

The company has been without a substantive CEO till her appointment. She takes over from Col. Chance Ndagano who has been the acting CEO for close to 12 months.

Ms Makolo till her appointment held the position of RwandAir’s Deputy CEO in Charge of Corporate Affairs for about a year. She has previously worked with MTN-Rwanda rising at appoint to the post of acting CEO.

She inherits a carrier that currently operates about 25 destinations across Africa Asia and Europe with more routes on the cards. RwandAir says plans to launch direct flights to China are in the advanced stages, with the maiden flight scheduled for mid this year.

The airline has also set its sight on flying to the US and Israel in addition to linking more Africa cities to its network.
